PACER Center workshop addresses challenging behaviors in children with disabilities

PACER Center is offering “Understanding Challenging Behaviors in Children,” a free workshop for parents of children with disabilities in preschool through elementary school. It is on Wednesday, April 7, 2010, from 7 to 9 p.m., in room 120 at the Science Laboratory Center at Winona State University, Winona, Minn. Advance registration is requested.

Behavior is communication, and everyone develops a style of communication that works for them. Participants will discover a new and positive approach to changing problem behaviors and supporting improved behaviors.

Topics include:

  • Learning about brain development and different temperament styles
  • Understanding  behavior from a positive perspective
  • Teaching preferred behavior through the use of positive behavior interventions
  • Finding alternatives to punishment
  • Sustaining appropriate behavior

To register, call PACER at 952-838-9000 or 952-838-0190 (TTY). In Greater Minnesota, call 800-537-2237 (toll free) or visit PACER.org.
