PACER Center workshop addresses challenging behaviors in children with disabilities
PACER Center is offering “Understanding Challenging Behaviors in Children,” a free workshop for parents of children with disabilities in preschool through elementary school. It is on Wednesday, April 7, 2010, from 7 to 9 p.m., in room 120 at the Science Laboratory Center at Winona State University, Winona, Minn. Advance registration is requested.
Behavior is communication, and everyone develops a style of communication that works for them. Participants will discover a new and positive approach to changing problem behaviors and supporting improved behaviors.
Topics include:
- Learning about brain development and different temperament styles
- Understanding behavior from a positive perspective
- Teaching preferred behavior through the use of positive behavior interventions
- Finding alternatives to punishment
- Sustaining appropriate behavior
