PACER workshop explores positive approaches to challenging behaviors

PACER Center is offering “Practice the Positive: Tips for Supporting Your Child with Behavior Needs,” a free workshop for parents. It is on Tuesday, May 11, 2010, from 7 to 9 p.m., in the media room at Weaver Lake Elementary School, 15900 Weaver Lake Rd., Maple Grove, Minn. Advance registration is requested.

This workshop will help parents discover a positive approach to changing their child’s problem behavior and supporting improved behavior at home and school.

Topics include:

  • Understanding behavior from a positive perspective
  • Teaching preferred behavior and using positive behavior interventions
  • Including positive behavior interventions and supports in an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or a 504 Plan
  • Finding alternatives to punishment and sustaining appropriate behavior
