PACER workshop explores Response to Intervention

PACER Center is offering “Response to Intervention,” a free workshop for parents of elementary-school students and professionals. It is on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at PACER Center, 8161 Normandale Blvd., Bloomington, Minn. Advance registration is requested.

Response to Intervention (RTI) is a tiered approach some school districts are using to provide additional instruction to elementary-school students who have academic or behavior issues. Students who do not benefit from the interventions may be referred for a special education evaluation. The Minnesota Department of Education is encouraging school districts to adopt this approach.

Participants are invited to find out:

  • What is RTI?
  • How does it work?
  • How does it affect students with and without disabilities?
  • What role does the Minnesota Department of Education play?

The workshop will be presented by staff from the Minnesota Department of Education in collaboration with PACER Center.

To register for the workshop, call PACER at 952-838-9000 or 952-838-0190 (TTY). In Greater Minnesota, call 800-537-2237 (toll free) or visit PACER.org.

PACER Center is a parent center for families of children and young adults with any disability. PACER provides individual assistance, workshops, publications, and other resources to help families make decisions about education and other services for their child or young adult with disabilities.
