PACER workshop offers tips on advocating for youth involved in the justice system
PACER Center is offering “Tips for Advocating for Your Child Who is Involved in the Justice System,” a free workshop for parents whose children with disabilities are at risk for entering the court system or are already in a court-ordered setting. It is on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, from 7 to 9 p.m., at PACER Center, 8161 Normandale Blvd., Bloomington, Minn. Advance registration is requested.
Topics include:
- How youth with disabilities become involved in the juvenile justice system
- How to advocate when your child is arrested
- How to prepare your child for talking to police and appearing in court
- How to navigate the court system
- What your child’s special education rights are if in a juvenile justice placement or if charged in school
