PACER Center offers workshop on effective parent advocacy skills

PACER Center is offering “Six Skills for Effective Parent Advocacy,” a free workshop for parents of children with disabilities. It is on Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at PACER Center, 8161 Normandale Blvd., Bloomington, Minn. Advance registration is requested.

This workshop will explore six skills parents can use to become more effective advocates for their child with a disability. These skills include:

  • Understanding your child’s disability
  • Knowing your school district
  • Knowing your rights and responsibilities
  • Using clear and effective communication
  • Understanding the special education process
  • Knowing the dispute resolution options
