UNITY DAY is Oct. 25, the signature event of National Bullying Prevention Month
Minneapolis: A major highlight of PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Month is UNITY DAY, the day when people around the world come together to show their support for those who are bullied, and pledge to create a world without bullying! UNITY DAY takes place this year on Wednesday, Oct. 25.
The call to action is simple: wear and share the color ORANGE.
PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center, which initiated National Bullying Prevention Month and UNITY DAY, encourages students, parents, teachers, community members, schools and organizations to join the movement by wearing and sharing ORANGE — it can be anything, from T-shirts to wristbands and shoelaces.
Photos will be shared on social media using #UnityDay2017. Supporters can also share orange with a customized Facebook profile frame and an orange tint on Instagram.
“ORANGE provides a powerful, visually compelling expression of solidarity,” said Paula Goldberg, PACER Center Executive Director. “When hundreds of individuals in a school or organization wear ORANGE, the vibrant statement becomes a conversation starter, sending the unified message to kids to know that they are not alone.”
One of every five students reports being bullied during the school year. Online, the percentage of individuals who have experienced cyberbullying has nearly doubled over the past decade.
“UNITY DAY is an opportunity to make a powerful statement that encourages everyone to unite for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion,” said Julie Hertzog, director of PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center. “Many students who are bullied say they feel alone in their experience. On UNITY DAY, we show our support and pledge to create a world without bullying!”
