Assistive Technology Specialist

POSITION: Assistive Technology Specialist
SUPERVISOR: Bridget Ames, Simon Technology Center Coordinator
STATUS: Full-time, 12 months, salaried monthly, exempt status

The PACER Simon Technology Center offers information, referral, and professional training on assistive technology topics. Assistive technology is used to help individuals with disabilities to reach their full potential.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in providing assistive technology services for families, professionals and persons with disabilities
  • Keep current on state-of-the-art technology tools and strategies for meeting the needs of people with disabilities and to act as a technology resource for parents and professionals
  • Assist with presentations and workshops for parents on assistive technology
  • Conduct assistive technology consultations for children and adults with disabilities, in a variety of disability areas
  • Answer phone, e-mail, and in-person inquiries from families, professionals, and persons with disabilities on assistive technology topics
  • Assist with data collection and evaluation for Simon Technology Center activities
  • Work on transition, employment, and other technology issues for older students and adults
  • Assist with the annual Simon Technology Center Open House and other events
  • Other tasks as necessary

Requirements

  • Assistive Technology background, interest and aptitude
  • Good teaching, training, and presentation skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Good organizational skills—including ability to prioritize task, and attention to detail
  • Familiarity and comfort in working with children with disabilities and their parents
  • Ability to travel, ability to drive
