2010 Symposium Information
Goal of the Symposium
The symposium is designed to enhance awareness and identify strategies for responding to mental health and learning disabilities in children and young adults from the perspective of teachers and parents.
The symposium will provide high quality professional and parent development for Minnesota educators and parents regarding:
- children's mental health and learning disabilities
- effective treatment planning
- proactive, positive teaching strategies and interventions
Audience
Outstanding learning opportunity for general education teachers, administrators and parents interested in understanding more about mental health and learning disabilities in children and young adults.
Registration
Registration Fee: FREE
Continental breakfast and lunch provided.
Registration is limited to the FIRST 1,100 reservations received.
Clock Hours
The 6 clock hours offered are designed to meet the requirement for Minnesota teachers renewing their teaching license in understanding the key warning signs of early-onset mental illness in children and adolescents. Local re-licensure committees, however, have final approval.

Verna Price, Ph.D.Dr. Verna Cornelia Price is an entrepreneur, organizational consultant, educator, author, executive coach and an internationally known motivational speaker. As the president and principal consultant of J. Cameron & Associates and JCAMA Publishers, she has custom designed a multiple intelligence approach that engages clients in a structured process for rethinking leadership and the role of personal power in the workplace. Dr. Price received her Ph.D. in Educational Policy and Administration from the University of Minnesota. She is currently Leadership Institute Faculty at The College of St. Catherine and an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. |

Read Sulik, M.D.Dr. Read Sulik is a child and adolescent psychiatrist, adult psychiatrist, and pediatrician who was recently appointed assistant commissioner for Chemical and Mental Health Services Administration for the Minnesota Department of Human Services. He speaks extensively on depression, anxiety, trauma, suicide, ADHD, and more. His recent awards include the 2007 Psychiatrist of the Year and 2008 Distinguished Service Award from the Minnesota Psychiatric Society, as well as the 2008 Exemplary Psychiatrist Award from the National Alliance of the Mentally Ill. He earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota and completed the Triple Board Combined Residency Program at the University of Kentucky. |
