Multiple Disabilities

Legal Definition

“Multiple disabilities means a combination of two or more disabilities as defined in clause (i) of section 2 of the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995.”

Working with Students with Multiple Disabilities

  • Functional skills should be taught such as dressing oneself, learning to make purchases.
  • Teach in real-life settings.
  • Students with multiple disabilities should participate in activities that are appropriate for same-age peers without disabilities.
  • Teach students with multiple disabilities how to make choices.
  • Teach appropriate recreation and leisure skills.
