The Coalition for Children with Disabilities is comprised of eight statewide organizations representing over 121,000 children with disabilities in Minnesota. The Coalition is dedicated to protecting the rights and services of children with disabilities and their families.
Through its direct advocacy, membership, boards of directors and advisory committees, the Coalition is in close touch with parents, self-advocates and professionals. Through their collective experience as parents and advocates, the Coalition is able to work for solutions to address problems and concerns related to special education.
The Coalition believes Minnesota must provide appropriate education services and supports, including positive behavioral interventions, to children with special education needs. The Coalition also believes that sufficient funding must be appropriated to carry out the mission of educating children with disabilities.
The Coalition also supports the federal law, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). This is the basic law providing special education services and due process procedures for children with disabilities in this country.
