Enhancing Student Learning

Parents can be much more effective in supporting education if they understand the curriculum their child is expected to master and the programs offered. Parents want to know what is being taught and what takes place in the classroom; they can reinforce it at home if they are provided with adequate support. Parents understand that teachers do much of the instruction, and parents will be more effective partners if they are aware of the school’s goals and expectations, as well as the methods used to reach those goals. If parents and teachers collaborate by sharing information about the child’s learning style, strengths, and weaknesses, they will be more able to work together to support the child’s success in school.
