Welcome and Introductions

After welcome and introductions, begin the workshop by:

Asking parents to share what types of disabilities their youth have.

Acknowledge that they represent a wide range of experiences and issues.

Tell parents that the purpose of the workshop is to encourage them to consider what they can do to help their youth prepare for employment by providing an introduction to what services are available and how to obtain them.

Explain that all resources may not be relevant for their own son or daughter.

Tell parents that the presentation will cover what they can do at home, the roles of the school and of community service providers.

Encourage parents to follow up with you or with specific service providers if they have questions that were not answered during the presentation.
