Helping Families Prepare for the Future

RSA Parent Information and Training Programs Help Parents

In addition to answering a short series of "yes" or "no" questions that could be analyzed quantitatively, the parents who had received individual assistance provided comments about the value of the services they received. The following five themes emerged from those comments. These themes provide greater insight into the ways in which parents applied the information they received from RSA Parent Information and Training Programs, as well as the quality of the services provided.

Programs provided information that helped parents:

  • practice informed choice
  • work effectively with professionals
  • access services
  • promote youth self-determination
  • educate other families

In addition, many parents wanted to acknowledge the warm, personal, and professional quality of the services they received from knowledgeable supportive staff.
