Workshops
PACER Center offers free workshops throughout Minnesota to parents of children with disabilities and the professionals working with families.
Workshop topics include areas of interest in special education, including information on the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) program, early childhood, the area of transition for students 14-21 (housing, post secondary, employment, and community), assistive technology, and many more!

Technology to Access the General Curriculum - Universal Design for Learning - see flyer
Participants will learn about universal design for learning (UDL) and the technology available to support it. Implementation strategies, including the parent's role in supporting UDL and classroom planning tips, will be given. This workshop is part of the Duluth Assistive Technology (AT) Workshop Series. Participants who attned three of the five trainings in this series will receive a free library membership to the Simon Technology Center. This series is funded by a grant from the Minnesota Department of Education.

Transition Planning and Community Resources: What You Need to Know - see flyer
The transition from school to community can be a difficult time for youth with disabilities and their families. This workshop is designed to help parents understand the critical need to plan for transition while a youth is still in school. Materials on transition, employment, and postsecondary resources also will be provided to each participant.

What does the federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) mean for children with disabilities who are in special education? Find out at this free PACER workshop for parents and professionals. You will learn about inclusion of children with disabilities in required testing, questions to ask that may improve outcomes for children with disabilities, supplemental educational services (tutoring), state report cards on schools, and NCLB requirements for schools in Minnesota.

Life Planning for Persons with Disabilities - Part II: Power of Attorney, Wills, and Trusts - see flyer
PACER Center presents a free, two-part workshop for people with disabilities and their families. Keynote speakers include Daryll Stenberg from Life Planning for Persons with Disabilities, and attorney Robert Gunderson. Topics of Part II include health care power of attorney, health care living wills, long-term-care issues, probate, revocable living trusts, supplemental needs trusts, and wills. Each family that attends is invited to receive a free, two-hour consultation from Life Planning for Persons with Disabilities to discuss how a comprehensive life plan would work in their situation.

Internet Use for Education and Daily Life
The Internet can offer a way to be involved with others their own age. This workshop will teach parents and children and young adults with disabilities responsible and creative uses of the Internet. Participants will learn how to use a search engine; how to avoid unwholesome sites; how to create a blog, and many other Internet skills.
