Workshops
PACER Center offers free workshops throughout Minnesota to parents of children with disabilities and the professionals working with families.
Workshop topics include areas of interest in special education, including information on the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) program, early childhood, the area of transition for students 14-21 (housing, post secondary, employment, and community), assistive technology, and many more!

Planning Ahead for Graduation and Life
This new workshop is designed for parents of students age 14 and older with disabilities. Students, teachers and other professionals are also welcome to attend. Participants will learn about such topics as how to create a vision for the future, what youth with disabilities need to succeed after school, how to use the IEP as a playbook for a successful transition, and who plays a key role on the transition team. Each family attending will receive a packet of helpful resource materials.

PACER Hosts a Viewing of the Film "Including Samuel" - see flyer
PACER Center is excited to offer a showing of the movie "Including Samuel," produced by photojournalist Dan Habib. This one-hour, award-winning film is designed to help schools, families, community groups, and others work toward educational inclusion in an informed and innovative way. It examines the educational and social inclusion of youth with disabilities. The film features Habib’s son Samuel and his family as well as four other families with a variety of inclusion experiences. Interviews with teachers, parents, and disability rights experts are also included.
Following the viewing, PACER staff will lead a discussion on the film.

Put on you lab coats and come to PACER to be a Crime Scene Investigator (CSI)! We will explore the science of forensics by fingerprinting, analyzing powders, making teeth impressions, and determining someone’s height based on their shoe size. We will test our CSI skills by analyzing data and solving a mock crime!

A free workshop for parents of children from birth through age 5 with developmental delays or disabilities. Early literacy skills are the foundation for developing language and reading skills. They're also essential for school success. Whatever your young child's level of ability, you can help promote those important skills through everyday activities. If you can dream it, you can build it! Join us to put your creative thinking skills to the test while we design bridges, boats, and more. Toothpicks, pennies, aluminum foil, gumdrops, straws, and clay will be used to make a variety of structures. We will test our structures by adding weight. Come see what structures will fall and which ones will stand!

PACER welcomes noted autism author Travis Thompson, Ph.D., who will lead a discussion on the causes of meltdowns of children with autism spectrum disorder and strategies for dealing with them. The Internet can offer a way to be involved with others their own age. This workshop will teach parents and children and young adults with disabilities responsible and creative uses of the Internet. Participants will learn how to use a search engine; how to avoid unwholesome sites; how to create a blog, and many other Internet skills.

Creation Station: Get Crazy with Clay
However you squish it, squash it, or squeeze it, Sclupey™ clay gives shape to your imagination. Make a colorful keychain, necklace, or anything else you can dream up. Creation Station staff will lead activities as well as inspire attendees to make amazing works of art. All Creation Station events are free but registration is required. Staff and volunteers will be present to facilitate activities; however, adults must stay to supervise as needed.
