Research indicates that people with disabilities have better outcomes when they have supports to live in the community rather than living in institutions, however, initiatives to create new institutional lving settings are being proposed in many U.S. communities. This video considers whether that is a good idea. It is adapted from the white paper "Community Living and Participation for People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities: What the Research Tells Us," from the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD) and the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD).
