Ask an astronaut with PACER Center

Join PACER Center on Wednesday, August 20 at approximately 10 a.m. for a livestream Q&A session with astronauts from NASA’s Expedition 73 crew. Astronauts Michael Fincke and Zena Cardman will answer pre-submitted questions from students about what it’s like living and working in space as they pass over our location aboard the International Space Station. In-person event attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in a straw rocket launching workshop where they will get to design and test their own paper rockets. All ages welcome; the event will take place at PACER’s office at 8161 Normandale Boulevard in Bloomington.

Meet the astronauts

Michael Fincke was selected as an astronaut by NASA in 1996 and is currently serving as Expedition 73’s flight engineer. Previously, he served as a science officer and flight engineer for Expedition 9, space station commander for Expedition 18, and mission specialist for STS-134, where he completed three spacewalks!

Zena Cardman was selected by NASA as a member of the 2017 “Turtles” astronaut class. Her scientific research is focused primarily on geobiology and geochemical cycling in subsurface environments, from caves to deep sea sediments. She is serving as commander for NASA’s SpaceX Crew-11 mission and has become a flight engineer of Expeditions 73/74 for a long-duration science expedition aboard the orbiting laboratory.

This event is a part of PACER’s Tech for Teens workshop series, which helps youth with disabilities gain exposure to technology, engineering, and math concepts in a comfortable and inclusive setting.
