My Child Is on an IEP

The Discipline is:

an in-school suspension*.

Response:

There are no restrictions on in-school suspensions, provided that your child:

  • is given services that allow him or her to continue to appropriately progress in the general curriculum
  • continues to receive the services specified in his or her IEP, and
  • continues to participate with children without disabilities to the extent he or she would have in his or her current placement. For example, if your child was in the regular education classroom, he or she must be assigned to the same in-school suspension room as children without disabilities.

Options:

If all of these conditions were not met, whether or not your child remained in the school building, then that day is counted as one day of an out-of-school suspension.1 Go to out-of-school suspension section >>>
